A Point of Interest (POI) is a specific location that may be found useful. Maps includes a number of POI's that represent street addresses, city names, and country names. In addition to these there are POI's representing locations such as restaurants, hospitals, and airports. These POI's are represented by specific icons on the map.
Using Maps allows you to instantly call and/or browse to the POI's, as well as sharing your location information with other mobile users (sending map image over MMS, sending GPS coordinates using S60 landmark messaging over MMS). You can also store address information to the phone book for immediate navigation access.
If you are using Ovi Maps, you can define your own POIs, known as Places and store them as your favourites. You can add specific icons and additional information to your Places, and save them in your personal Ovi Maps account and synchronise them to your compatible mobile device.
